Shattering Glass Ceilings; Susan McGalla’s story

From Joseph Horne to the President of American Eagle outfitters, McGalla has accumulated a great deal of experience in the retail industry and in the cut-throat world of business. Her meteoric rise in a sector which is dominated by men has turned heads for many and for good reason too.

After Graduating from the University of Mount Union with a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing in 1986, she launched her career with the Joseph Horne Company, whom she worked with until 1994. Before the year was finished she found better opportunities with American Eagle Outfitters that same year. Susan eventually climbed her way to the role of Chief Merchandising officer and president of the company in 2007; because of her hard work, two new brands were created and launched under her careful supervision.

In January of 2009, she left the company and used her years of experience as a private consultant for both the Financial investment and the retail industry before being hired on for a short tenure as the CEO of Wet Seal Inc., which ended abruptly on July of 2012 due to continually plummeting stock prices, despite the innovative strategies that Susan rolled out to save that failing company. Brushing off that setback, Susan did what any seasoned businessperson would do, and continued to expand her vast repertoire of business experience by building her very own consulting firm from the ground up known as P3 Executive Consulting in 2013. By February of 2015 she had been offered the position of Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where she has been working to this day.
